When Will Mayflower Ski Resort Open? [Expert Review!]

For most people, the end of an exceptionally long, cold winter means it’s time to hit the slopes. Even if you’re not a fan of winter sports, spring fever has hit the nation, and you can feel it wherever you go.

The problem is, spring fever doesn’t seem to be hitting Mayflower Ski Resort. We checked in with resort management to find out when the slopes will be opening for the season, and if they have any plans to expand the ski-in, the village and the snowflake chairlift.

When Will Mayflower Ski Resort Open?

According to Mike Faherty, President of Mayflower, “We are thrilled that the season is finally here. After a long, cold winter, we’re looking forward to welcoming visitors and locals to the village and offering them amazing powder experiences.”

With some notable exceptions (like North Carolina and South Carolina), ski resorts across the country are opening for the 2017-18 season. Luckily for fans of snow sports in the mid-Atlantic region, Mayflower is one of those resorts. It is anticipated that as many as 3-4 inches of snow will arrive this season, with the potential to accumulate more than 8 inches, as in the previous season.

No Plans To Expand The Resort

There are no plans to expand the resort this season, at least not according to Mike Faherty. “We currently have everything we need,” he said. “The snowflake chairlift will operate as planned this season, bringing skiers and snowboarders to the top of the mountain for some incredible views and the rush of sliding down a pristine snow field. We’re looking forward to giving visitors and locals alike an unforgettable winter sports experience.”

Expansion Plans For The Future

However, that doesn’t mean the resort is closed to expansion. “We are in the very preliminary stages of researching potential expansion sites,” Faherty said. “The process of making a decision on this matter will take some time, so we’re not sure when, or if, expansion will happen. But we are looking for the right opportunity to invest in a new run, a new parking structure or another chairlift, so that we can continue to offer spectacular powder experiences to our guests, and continue to grow the village.”

For now, Mayflower is focused on making the most of their current acreage. The resort is open for the season, and they’re looking to make the most of the snow, the sunshine and the ambiance of the winter season. The snowflake chairlift operates daily from 9 am until 4 pm, and the mountain is open seven days a week. This season, the resort’s base area and snow park are fully operational, and the snowboard/skier crossover area is also open.

Additionally, Mayflower is offering a special winter school on ski instruction for people who want to learn how to ski. The school is open daily from 8 am until 4:30 pm, and the cost is only $50 per day. Lessons include a one-hour tour with a professional guide, ski equipment and boots are NOT included, but guests can rent them for $25 per day. This is a great value for people who want to learn how to ski and don’t want to spend too much money.

Where Can I Stay In Mayflower?

Accommodation at Mayflower is reasonably priced and has everything a visitor could want. There are a variety of cabin types available, from rustic to deluxe, perfect for families, individuals and groups of friends who want to spend a night away on the mountain. In addition to luxurious hotel rooms, visitors can choose to stay in one of the resort’s eight guesthouses. These are single-story structures with fully equipped kitchens, large living areas and private bedrooms. Rates at the guesthouses vary according to the season and whether or not discounts are applied.

For a more traditional stay, there are also more than 20 chalets at Mayflower, some of which have been updated with modern amenities and tasteful furnishings. All of the chalets have private baths, fully equipped kitchens, and some even boast fireplaces and whirlpool tubs. Rates at the chalets are comparable to those at the guesthouses.

What Are The Best Ways To Get Around In Mayflower?

There are a variety of ways for guests to get around in Mayflower, depending on what they want. Those who want to make the most of the village, its amenities and eateries can take advantage of the ski bus, which leaves from a stop in front of the lodge.

Those who want to hit the slopes can take a gondola ride to the top of the mountain, where they can park and walk to the slopes or take the Snowflake lift, a smaller version of the gondola, which operates during the day and doesn’t require a reservation.

For people who want to avoid the hustle and bustle of the town, they can take the train, which stops at the Mount Washington Railway Station, located in the village. The station is only a few minutes walk from the resort.

Those who want to make the most of the sunshine can visit the nearby town of Franconia, which is just as charming as Mayflower, with a selection of restaurants, bars and eateries, as well as boutiques, art galleries and antique shops. There’s also the Frank Gehry-designed Institute of Contemporary Art, with its iconic orange brick and steel design. It’s free admission and open daily from 10 am until 6 pm. This is also the place to be if you’re a fan of science fiction, as the institute’s design is a clear nod to Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.
