A couple of friends and I were out for a ski Sunday afternoon and, as we were chatting about the upcoming winter sports season, we realised there was something missing from our apres-ski activities. We needed a place to store our ski equipment and jackets as well as our ski and apres-ski clothing. We also needed somewhere to store our boots as they took up a lot of space and were hard to keep clean. So, we decided that the easiest and the most fun way to store our sports goods would be to build a wine rack! Now, for those of you who don’t drink alcohol, this post might seem a little bit pointless. However, for those of you who enjoy their drink and for those of you who want to create an extra bar in your home, this post gives you all the information you need.

The Goods
The first thing you need to decide is what type of ski equipment you have. This will depend on the kind of skiing you do. If you mostly go for chairlift rides, you will need equipment for those. You also need to think about what size your household is. Do you have room for the snowboard, ski jacket, and ski gloves that you will need to store? You might also need a space for your boots as well as storage for your apres-ski clothing. Once you have decided what you need, take a little bit of time to think about what you want. You want your wine rack to look clean and simple yet functional and you also want it to be able to easily store your goods. Once you have thought about what you want, it’s time to start collecting the materials you need.
The Materials
The next step is to collect the materials you need. You will need two of everything. For example, you will need two pallets as well as two sets of shelves. If you have more than two people in your household, you might also need some locking tools as well as a key. It is also advisable to buy a toolbox to store your nails in as it makes the process of hanging your clothes a lot easier. If you are still using the same type of nails that came with your house, then it is time to get some new ones. Be careful not to buy too much as you will run out of room once your equipment is in!
The Tools
Once you have all the materials, it’s time to get the tools you will need to build your wine rack. First, you will need a ladder to reach the heights you need to and a workbench to work on. You will also need a drill, a jigsaw, an angle grinder, a hand screwdriver, and some hinges. If you live in a region where it snows a lot, then you will also need some salt to help with the removal of rust after washing down all your tools. If you don’t have a garage, then you will need to store them in the attic or under the stairs. As this is supposed to be a “woman’s” project, you might also need a stepladder or a ladder to get to the “guy” area (if the attic is located at the “guy” area, then you will need a stepladder or a ladder to get to the “guy” area).
The Instructions
The last step is to follow the instructions given. First, measure the height from the ground to where you want your wine rack to be. Multiply this number by two. This will give you the length of the wall you will need. Now that you know the length of the wall, it’s easier to find the perfect spot for it. You want your wall to be on an exterior wall of some sort as this will make cleaning down easier as there is less chance of water getting into your storage space. Once you have found the perfect location, mark the spot with some chalk so you can see it from the outside. Finally, mark two spots on the wall where you will need two hinges and two sets of shelves. Drill a small hole at each of these spots and put one of the hinges in each hole. Apply some hinges to the wall and then put the other sets of shelves on top of them. With these last two steps, you will have an extra bar in your home where you can enjoy a drink with your friends and family!
