Sharing is Caring

Many people ask me how to get to Cervinia Ski Resort in Italy. Well, the short answer is, it’s incredibly easy. All you need is a sense of adventure and the desire to visit one of the greatest ski resorts in the world.

Cervinia is located in the northern part of the country and it’s one of the most visited ski resorts in Europe. The main street is called Corso Massimo Venezia and it connects the historic center of the town to the main train station. Traveling by train is quite convenient since there’s a direct connection to Malpensa airport. From there, you can take a connecting flight to Venice. If you want, you can do the trip in a roundabout way and go via Brescia or Trento.

Even those who have never been there will tell you that the scenery is breathtaking. Every year, the town sees some of the highest snowfall in Europe. What’s not to love?

One of the best things about Cervinia is that the resort is family-friendly. The chairs are arranged in such a way that kids can enjoy themselves while parents can keep an eye on them. There are also a lot of bars and restaurants along the main street of Corso Massimo Venezia, so the whole family can enjoy a drink together after a day of skiing.

The Best Time To Visit Cervinia

The best time to visit Cervinia is between December and April. That’s when the snowfall is the most impressive and it gives you the opportunity to enjoy some truly awe-inspiring skiing. In the other months, there isn’t too much to do because the snow covers all the pistes. In spring, the sun is shining and the snow is turning brown. It’s also a good idea to visit Cervinia in the early morning or late evening, when the snowfall is reduced and the light is of a beautiful yellow or orange color. Traveling by plane in winter is also a fantastic experience, as the snow acts as a great atmospheric filter and you can see an incredible amount of the planet’s surface. In summer, the town sees a lot of touristic traffic but that’s also the case in the other months. The weather is warm and you can swim in the lakes and enjoy a good walk. It’s quite difficult to find a bad time to visit Cervinia.

Getting There

If you want to get to Cervinia, the first thing you need to do is to fly to Malpensa. The nearest airport is quite far from the center of town, but it’s the only way to get there. There, you can catch a bus that will take you to the center of Malpensa. From there, you can take a train to Venice or another train to Milan.

Getting to Cervinia from Venice is easy too. Exit at the Rialto Bridge and take the signposted road to Bergamo. Once you’re in Bergamo, take the Provincial Road 62 northbound and continue on it for about 15 km. You will then see the turnoff to Cervinia on your right. Follow this road and take the first exit to Corso Massimo Venezia. Follow this road for about 15 minutes and you will arrive at the resort. You can also reach the resort by bus from Venice (1/2 hours).

Sightseeing

Sightseeing is one of the things that first come to mind when you think of a trip to Cervinia. The town is home to some of the most beautiful churches, castles and fortresses. There is also the Teatro Dal Verme, which is the largest open-air amphitheater in Europe. One of the must-sees is the Fortezza di Belvedere, which actually translates to โ€œThe Viewpoint Fortress.โ€ It was built in the 15th century by the Della Rovere family. This is the same family that produced the Renaissance artist, Benvenuto Cellini. If you are a fan of drama, opera and music, then you should definitely pay a visit to the Teatro Verdi. Nearby, you will find a museum dedicated to the composer, Giuseppe Verdi. In summertime, the piazze in the center of town are crowded with visitors but there are still a lot of places that people keep for themselves. It’s quite difficult to find a bad angle when taking a picture of this beautiful town. There are also a lot of buses that serve as transport around the town, so you can get anywhere you want easily.

Where To Stay

There is quite a lot of accommodation in Cervinia. You have luxury hotels, bed & breakfasts, and even hostels. The town’s old town is filled with galleries, boutiques and restaurants. There are also festivals and concerts held in the town in the summer months. In the winter, the old town is closed off to non-residents and it becomes a wintery wonderland. If you want to stay in the historic center, you can take a look at the local youth hostel, which is quite close to the old town center.

Where To Eat

The restaurants in Corso Massimo Venezia are on one side of the street and those in the old town are on the other. There is also a small but beautiful Piazza Trinitร  dei Monti, which is located on the intersection of Corso Massimo Venezia and Via della Scala. This is one of the main attractions in town and it’s filled with local restaurants, bars and eateries. You will have your pick of Italian and International restaurants. In the old town, there are also a lot of places that serve as informal eateries, so you can get a bite to eat after exploring the churches, palaces and towers of the Renaissance.
