Nestled in the Sawtooth Mountains is Stanley, a small mountain resort with just 12 trails and one chairlift that operates on snowmaking equipment. Yet, despite this small size, Stanley is known for its freeride terrain and large snow park that offers tons of jumps and other features.

The southern part of the state has a couple of smaller resorts that are worth a visit. Frenchtown features 12 trails and a small snow park. It’s the perfect place for families since there are several activities, from sledging to making snowballs.

In the Salmon River Mountains of Idaho Falls, you’ll find a few smaller resorts called the Diamondback Range. These include Winona, with 12 trails, and Thacher, which is open all year round and has 14 trails.

In the Boise foothills, you’ll find two more smaller resorts called the Little Switzerland and Sunray. The former is only open for a couple of weeks in the winter and has 16 trails, while Sunray is open all year round and has 18 trails. You might also like to visit the Boise National Park, located in the Boise foothills, which features 18 more trails.
