How Long Does It Take To Become A Ski Instructor? [Answered!]

Sharing is Caring

It is an incredible feeling to wake up and instantly know what you are going to do that day. One of the most liberating feelings is waking up, getting out of bed and immediately bounding into the gym to workout. The same feeling is experienced when you wake up and know you are going to go skiing that day. You may wake up excited about the upcoming ski season, but in reality, the thought of having to ski every day can leave you a little anxious.

If you are interested in becoming a ski instructor this season, how long does it take? To find out, we spoke to Mark Andrews, owner of Snowfall Training who shares the basics of becoming a ski instructor.

The Basics Of Ski Instructoring

The first step towards becoming a ski instructor is completing a ski instructor course in the winter. After completing a winter ski instructor course, you can look for teaching jobs in the ski resorts in either Europe or the USA in the summer. Most European ski resorts close in the summer, which means you can only find jobs there in the summer. In the USA, the skiing season is longer, which means you can find jobs there year-round. It is possible to teach ski in the winter and move to a different location or resort in the summer to teach.

Skiing is a popular winter sport with over 500 million participants each year. It is one of the most popular winter sports in the world. The number of participants is likely to rise as more people want to get away from the crowds and enjoy the peace and quiet of winter. There are over 500 ski resorts around the world with the top 100 visited by over a million people each year. You can enjoy skiing anywhere around the world, but you need to make sure you prepare physically and mentally for the experience.

If you are fortunate enough to live in a snowy area, you can prepare for the winter by building up your ski muscles. The best way to do this is by participating in local ski races. These races are a great way to prepare for the slopes as you ski against other competitors. Not only will this make you stronger, but it will also give you a better attitude towards skiing. The more you ski, the more you will enjoy it and look forward to the opportunity to ski each day.

How Long Does It Take To Decide Vocationally?

After deciding you want to be a ski instructor, the next step is to decide vocationally. The time it takes to decide vocationally varies from person to person, but most people find they have made a conscious decision within a few months. After deciding on a course, the next step is to secure a job as a ski instructor. To do this, you can do one of two things; either apply directly through an agency or contact a local ski resort directly to see if there are any vacancies.

It is a good idea to look online for jobs as a ski instructor as there are many agencies that connect job seekers with employers. You can also find vacancies in local newspapers or on social media platforms. Once you have a job, you can look for a ski school that trains future ski instructors. If you want to progress in your career, you can always find a teaching job in a prestigious international school or university. Many top students choose to do a ski internship as it helps them decide what vocation they want to pursue in the future. After completing a ski internship, you can look for jobs in either the commercial or instructor sector. Depending on your skills and experience, you can progress rapidly through the ranks and find yourself at the top of your profession in a few years’ time.

Do You Have To Be A Certified Ski Instructor To Work As One?

In most cases, you do not need to be a certified ski instructor to work as one. However, in some resorts, such as Aspen, you will need to be certified before you can teach. Every ski instructor course that I have done or co-ordinated has allowed you to work regardless of whether you are certified or not. It all depends on the resort you are working at and whether or not they require certification.

The only instances where you might need to get certified are in a few smaller resorts in rural areas where there are no other jobs available. In these resorts, you will have to look for opportunities to get certified before you can teach. If you are teaching abroad, you will have to get certified to teach in a different country. The length of the course and the type of location you will be teaching at are the two main factors that determine whether or not you need certification. All reputable ski resorts will ensure you get proper training regardless of whether you have certification or not.

Once you have completed training, it is time to enter the real world and find work. The first step is to consider what type of work environment you prefer and which types of resorts you enjoy. The next step is to contact a local ski resort and see if there are any vacancies. If you are fortunate enough to land a job, you can look for a ski school that offers further training. For those that want to progress further in their career, they can always find a teaching job in a prestigious international school or university. If you teach elsewhere, you can look for employment in a resort’s administration or with a tour operator. Another option is to get a part-time job in fitness, food or retail to help you through the summer. Regardless of which option you choose, once the ski season arrives, you will be equipped with the knowledge needed to teach and enjoy the experience.
