Skiing in Telluride is an unforgettable experience. The scenery, the people and the slopes are all breathtaking. The snow makes the day feel like an extension of summer, and the cool temperatures in the summer months make it perfect for a round of golf, a hike or a bike ride. Although summer is almost over, there is still time to hit the slopes and make the most of the last bits of snow.

The town’s biggest annual event is the Telluride Film Festival, which celebrates both international and domestic cinema. The festival has been running for more than 70 years and screens more than 200 movies each year, with many famous Hollywood stars making guest appearances. The festival attracted more than 350,000 visitors in 2018 – the most recent year for which figures are available – and it’s one of the country’s biggest arts events. This year’s festival began on 19 June and ends on 3 October, and is already well underway. You can find out more about the festival, as well as how to get tickets, at theTelluride Film Festival website.

The Evolution Of A Ski Resort

In order to understand how big Telluride is, it is important to understand a little bit about its history. The ski resort actually started out in the 1940s as a series of rope tows and gradually upgraded to its current form over the years. Even before the days of high-speed quad chairs and snow plows, skiers would drive up and park their cars near the lifts so they could get the lift ticket and be ready to hit the slopes as soon as the lift stopped running. In those days, the parking lot served as a village. Today, the village still exists and is a hub for shopping, eating and drinking, but aside from that, not much else. There are no longer any hotels, no shops and no services of any sort. The old school gym that kids went to is now a luxury apartment building. It’s difficult to imagine that this was the same town that once hosted the World University Games.

There are still traces of the old school days in the village. One of the biggest events that the community still holds is the Apple Blossom Festival, which celebrates the blossoming of the local apple orchards. People come from all over the world to take part in the festival, which features a parade, arts and crafts, live music and, of course, lots of apples. It’s not unusual to see people from all walks of life come together for this event. The community supports its young and its old, as well as the in-betweens.

During the festival, you’ll often see residents donning period costumes and partying till the wee hours of the morning. It won’t be long before the festival organizers realize that something is going on, and they’ll issue a formal apology for missing the previous night’s performance. But by then, it will likely be too late to remedy the situation. The damage will have been done and the fun will be ruined.

How Big Is Telluride By Area?

Skiing in Telluride is so much more than simply going up a mountain to jump off a ski lift. The entire town is a giant ski resort, and it can be quite a task to cover all the ground. The biggest mountain in town is actually called Mount Baldy, and it reaches a height of 11,528 feet. Even if you’re not an experienced skier, the views from the top are breathtaking. You’ll have the opportunity to take a helicopter tour around the whole resort, offering you a bird’s eye view of the entire town.

The whole area is crisscrossed with hiking trails. If you’re planning on doing any hiking this summer, you’ll have your pick of the trails. While some are quite demanding and require military-grade skill to hike to the top, others are so short that you’ll be puffing up the hill in no time at all.

The largest group of people who visit the area are from abroad. The town is famous for its English Pub, which prides itself on its bangers and mash, and it also has a branch of Subway, a Chinese restaurant, a fish and chip shop and even a Mexican cantina, amongst other places to eat. You’re sure to find something to suit your taste buds in the English Pub, whether you’re a beer lover or a wine lover or both. The selection of drinks is absolutely fantastic, with around 20 wines available by the glass and dozens more by the bottle, making it the perfect place to sip a sundowner.

If you’re planning on staying in one of the luxury apartment buildings, there are plenty of shops, eateries and bars nearby, as well as the services that you need, such as a bank, a doctor’s office and a hospital. There’s also a 24-hour fitness center, as well as a spa and a pool (seasonal). If you’re looking to spend some quality time with your family, there are plenty of options for you, too. Many of the town’s biggest attractions are free, including the marionette theater, the dinosaur museum and the annual arts and crafts festival. It also hosts the Telluride Film Festival each year, so you’ll have the opportunity to catch some great films for free. If you don’t want to miss out on a single one of them, make sure to get your tickets in advance.

The Population Of Telluride

In 2019, the population of Telluride was 29,300, and it continues to grow each year. The influx of new people continues to boost the local economy, as well as providing more shoppers, eaters and drinkers. Several new restaurants, bars and hotels have opened up, along with a casino, which employs more than 1,000 people and brings in thousands of tourists each year.

One of the biggest challenges that the community faces is retaining its young adults, many of whom leave for college and then the workforce, only to return later to find their town has changed. They want to live in a smaller community with more character and a less crowded feel. There’s also the issue of child obesity, which is on the increase. The community wants to do its part in promoting healthy lifestyles and curbing weight gain. It is a never-ending struggle to keep up with the town’s burgeoning population.

The Climate Of Telluride

The climate of Telluride is perfect. The summers are long and hot, but not unbearable; the winters are short but sweet, and with the snow, it doesn’t get any better. The temperature often drops to lows in the winter, so you need suitable clothing – including a hat, gloves and a scarf – to protect yourself from the cold. You’ll find that the snow flurries are a common sight throughout the year, providing a beautiful spectacle and an excellent excuse to go outside and enjoy the fresh air.

The snow makes the air quality amazing. Because the town is located in the Rocky Mountains, it gets its share of high-altitude particulates, which is good for you. What’s more, the elevation means that the air is fresh and unpolluted. There are no factories in the area, and no trucks or flights overhead, so you can really let your hair down and enjoy the wilderness of nature.

Visiting Telluride

There’s so much more to Telluride than what’s discussed above. If you’ve even considered visiting the area, you’ll soon discover that it’s much more than just a pretty place to spend the summer. The entire town has an unusual charm that makes it quite unique. It’s certainly not your usual summer vacation destination, but if you’re a real fan of the genre, you may find that Telluride provides the perfect mix of nature and fun.
