How Big Is Keystone Ski Resort? [Answered!]

Spread the love

If you’ve ever been to Keystone, you know it’s big. The resort is filled with awesome chair lift lines, featuring some of the best panoramic views of the Rocky Mountains you can find. The place is massive; there are lots of trails for you to explore. And if you’ve ever seen the Hollywood movie The Shining, you know what I mean when I say that Keystone is really big.

The Economics Of A Large Resort

So how big is Keystone? It’s difficult to put a number on it because the resort’s exact dimensions change depending on what season you visit. In the winter, the area that is now Keystone was once a military base and is surrounded by a massive fence. At night, you can spot lights piercing through the treetops. During the day, you’ll often find soldiers walking around with rifles in hand, protecting the area’s secret treasures from being stolen.

The resort started small. After the military left, the land was given to the Public, and the residents of Colorado descended upon it. In the 1960s, there were only a few trails and some chalets. In those days, the resort was mostly a place for military personnel and their families to come for an active winter sport. And since the area is in the Rockies, a lot of the snow fell. Between 1970 and 1980, the resort’s acreage grew by 34%. That’s a lot of snow.

Getting To And From Keystone

Keystone is located in the south-central part of the state of Colorado, which is accessible via I-25 from Denver. The resort is near the junction of I-25 and Hwy 76, about four hours from Denver and two and a half hours from Boulder. Because the town is surrounded by resorts, you’ll often see bikers riding past on the road. It feels like a resort community, and that’s what makes it special. You can’t get much more resort-like than driving past other resorts on your way to the end of the road.

The Overall Experience

When you visit Keystone in the winter, you’ll notice it’s not a cozy mountain vacation spot. The weather is harsh, and it gets windy and cold. That’s not a problem though, because the snow and the views are what make it special. In the summer, you won’t get the steep slopes and the dense forests that give the mountain its unique appeal. Instead, you’ll find heat and dryness everywhere. That being said, in the summer, you can take hiking trails that lead into the wilderness, where you can find shady forested areas and pleasant temperatures. In the winter, you can take the opportunity to explore some of the local landmarks and their fascinating histories. You’re not really missing out on much by avoiding the resort in the summer.

The Mountain Biking Experience

One of the main attractions at Keystone is the mountain biking trails. The place is filled with adrenaline-pumping singletrack that will have even the most hardcore bikers riding past. The trails range from easy to intermediate, so even beginners will have a blast. The only downside to the mountain biking experience is the parking. There’s nowhere to park your bike, and that’s not easy when you’re driving up a hill or around a bend. You’ll have to find a spot along an isolated lane or search for a parking lot at the end of a trail. Not very convenient for everybody, especially if you’re bringing a four-wheeler with you. Another issue is the traffic. Keystone is a popular destination for mountain bikers, so there’s always a lot of bikers around. When you’re driving up a hill, you’ll notice every road surface becomes a slick, icy surface. It would be great if the mountain biking trails were on a flat area, but since they’re not, you’ll have to deal with snow, ice, and mud. That’s not very comfortable for the mountain bike’s tires, so watch out for those.

The Shopping Experience

Another way to enjoy yourself at Keystone is to go shopping. The resort offers some of the best shopping venues you’re likely to find anywhere. You’ll find national chain stores and boutiques that serve the ski and mountain lifestyle. The Keystone Shopping Center is home to more than 70 specialty eateries and boutiques, as well as four big-name retailers. The center boasts more than 30,000 square feet of fashion brands, including Canada Goose, Mountain Hardwear, and Black Diamond Skateboards. If you’re looking for a wide variety of goods and services, then Keystone is a great location to visit.

The Accommodation Experience

Accommodation at the resort is excellent. There are a variety of bed and breakfasts, hotels, and other lodging options available. At night, you can walk to the local eateries and listen to live music, often performed by local jazz bands. If you like to party, you can join in the fun at the various bars and restaurants that dot the resort. There’s something for everybody at Keystone.

If you want to try something different, there are also a lot of nice chalets and campers that you can rent. Some people might say that camping at high elevation is uncomfortable, but it’s a great way to experience life in the wilderness. A major perk of the chalets and campers is that they provide you with your very own toilet and shower facilities. That means you won’t have to pack your gear every day and transport it to the nearest public bathroom. It’s also a fantastic option if you don’t want to eat out all the time or if you’re looking for a more budget-friendly vacation.

If you ever wondered what it’s like to stay at a luxury resort, then you should visit Keystone in the winter. The views are breathtaking, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the accommodations are very comfortable. It might not be the most convenient place for a summer vacation, but in the winter, it’s like a fairy tale come true.
